Im not too keen on the painting as it doesnt show texture or depth, but what I do like is the way he has cleverly used light to make the image which is painted more appealing which shows great talent. I may use light to show one object but project another of that. As I have decided not to do a painting this artist is in a way irrelevent but he has used the human body and used light to portray a shadow on the humamn body to put depth in to the painting.

Rene Magritte was born in Lessines, in the province of Hainaut, in 1898, the eldest son of Leopold Magritte, who was a tailor and textile merchant, and Regina (nee Bertinchamps), a milliner until her marriage. Little is known about Magritte's early life.
René François-Ghislain Magritte was born on November 21st, 1898, in Lessines, Belgium, the eldest of three boys. Even at an early age, he liked to draw, and was encouraged to do so by his father Léopold. He later started painting at the age of 12. Régine Bertinchamp, Magritte's mother, suffered from depression; one night, while the rest of the family was asleep she fled to go to throw herself over a bridge, into the river Sambre. A few days later, her body is found floating, her face covered by her nightgown; René, who was then only 14, was deeply scarred by the image, which was later going to reappear in some of his works (The Heart of the Matter).
