My FMP - Human Figure

It has taken great thought to decide what subject/ theme to do for my Final Major Project, after deciding then deciding it doesnt have potential or I dont see how it can progress future in mediums I would like to use so I have spend the last few days exploring and researching which subject have the best potential and can be used in several mediums.
It has taken great thought to decide what subject/ theme to use for my Final Major Project.
After toying with ideas and researching subjects, I found the 'human figure' to be the best theme for me. This is because I feel it has the best potential and won't restrict me from the freedom of my ideas and the mediums I would like to use and can be used in any form and very easy access to it too. to conclude I am going to do for my Final Major Project is the human figure. I think the human figure is very vast and can produce primary research very easily as I am surrounded by people on a daily basis, the theme is very easy access.
Lets see if I have made the right decision and wait and see for the final piece.

Oliveira's art looks like it's been drawn freehand across the world with a black pen - but in fact, it's all intricately assembled wire sculptures.

After graduating with a degree in Sculpture from the University of Fine Arts in Lisbon in 2008, Oliveria quickly turned his attention from ceramics to wire - exhibiting two award-winning shows the following year.

"Inspiration for what I choose to represent comes from many different places, but in the main, I am inspired by drawing," he explains.

My thoughts

I wasn't too sure about the movement idea as the techniques i would experience are way in which i don't know I could relate them to movement, so changed after some hard thinking and exploring journeys and the walks which I wellies go on, I found that its not a subject which has very much potential and couldn't really move forward so now I am going to do some research and find a subject which interests me. Such as my family; girlguidinguk; animals. I am now going to go away and in my own have a think and research to go progression and support my idea ready for my pitch on Tuesday or Wednesday.

After asking people around me on their ideas, my mum came up with a great one. To use something that is relevant at this present time, so by using the horse meat scandal you could show through a painting or drawing the bond which a horse and rider have and trust with each other torn away in an instant and how animals are all threaten differently and unequal.

Tutorial with Kim

After trying to use movement in different mediums, I found it wasn't really a subject a potentially progress in to as I don't have it has much depth. So I had a discussion with Kim and a few of my friends on the course who were around to decide what I could do. Kim asked where the wellies travel so much, for them to break so many, as its a very weird that they break so easily. So that sprung in to an idea of strapping a camera to my welly to see were it goes and the view from the welly. But I did this and the video isn't very good or imaginative so as its not very interesting. I lost interest and couldn't see how from this video or many more that I would do, would I then benefit from.

Due to what I captured the video on, the computer wont let me up load it.

So Ive decided over the next few days in my own study time I am going to do a lot of research and find something which interests me then stick by it, to potentially be unique and push the subject further in new ways.

BrainStorms

Here are some quick brain storms to jot down what is my options and access to materials, also what themes I took take forward to work with for my final major project.

These are techniques I have access to at Blackburn College which I could use in my journey for experimenting, making critical mistake. To become to the conclusion of a final piece at the end with a journey of lessons and experimentation.

Out of curiosity I research the art movement just for some inspiration and help to move forward to a theme.

Movement was very initial idea so this is a quick brainstorm of the types of movement that I could work with as its a vast area. I originally wanted to do this as I wanted to work more with photography and learn more about it. But as I moved forward in my work I didn't want to just do photography I wanted explore much more, although I think photography is a strong area and is strong in its project so if I go to progress to university I will learn more about photography. So I moved on from here so I could take advantage of what I am begin offered at this time.

I narrowed it down to journeys and the journey of my wellies which is taken forward from unit 5 and 6.

After some strong discussions with a variety of tutors and peer students I came to the decision of the human figure as it holds the best potential and I still had the chance if I wish so, to do human figurative movement photographs.

Final Major Project Proposal

review

I work well at intricate hands-on , practical work in a range of media. In the past few months I have become accomplished using many more techniques such as: plaster casting; print making and photography. Projection to make my own photo on my plaster cast; Experimentation on what works and what doesn’t, not scared to get stuck in e.g. applying medium to plaster cast samples; and many more insignificant skills.

I build on ideas and concepts by using techniques and skills I have used and learnt in the upcoming months and my ability to push ideas further to accomplish a unique captivating piece of art.

Ideas and concepts

My theme is the Human Figure as it shows potentials in a vast number of pathways or even all pathwyas which doesn’t limit my thought proces or making. You can find examples on my blog of several ideas from artists which have inspired me, and theres endless possibility of choices on how to take work further.
As I have chosen the Human Figure I was unsure about which pathway to choose as I am very passionate about the whole art and design area in general but to keep my options open I have decided to do Fine Art and photography, as its very broad and many ways to experiment . I am as well going incorporating 3D and sculpture, printmaking, media, graphics and textiles in to my work. So I can do anything which is with reason.

Contextual research
The photography artists I have looked at are: Eadweard Muybridge, William Morris, Humprey Jennnings’ Horses Head 1937-1940 and James Carnegie.
I have gained ideas and may adapt and develop them in my own work. For example, the flip books of a series of action images, flicked to create the illusion of continuous motion, inspired by Eadweard Muybridge.

Techniques and presentation

I will need to take photos of people around me and life drawings or general drawings in many ways, document by an image or drawing artist research.

I will use all materials which are recommended or advised to me aswell as being challenging and using new materials used in a safe environment, just incase anything goes wrong, im not in danger. I will show everything I do and produce will be recorded and shown on my blog on a daily basis.

As we don’t really know our dimentions for spaces in our exhibition you can make the Final Major Piece at an apropriate size and not being idiotic. This is so that it still has the best possible outcome but also not overpowering or comparison with others work.

Most materials will be accessable but, if there not available, I will either find an alternative which will suit the same purpose or I will supply the material myself from somewhere else.

I will be using the methods of information gathering, recording of ideas and reasons for doing a piece of work, in my sketchbook, journal and blog.

Evaluation and progression

To evaluate my project in progress I will be continuously checking back to my brief to ensure the criteria is being met. I will ask my pathways tutor for feedback, and improve and cover all aspects several times till they cover all the requirements a brief asks for.

By showing development, self-motivation, determination and drive to achieve energy and perceive a thought provoking piece of work, which will carry out gaining me a distinction at the end of the year.

I will be thinking all the time about what I am doing and working to the best of my ability.

If anything goes wrong in the process I will record and take note of it, reflect on it to see how to improve it. If the problem is irrepairable, I will learn where and why it went wrong, learn from the mistake and reflect this in my work and then try again.

The Trip to London

This is a good starting point on my artist research, the all unique in their own way and I could incorporate the texture and look of their work into my own.

Appel appeared the surface of this painting by nailing discarded pieces of wood to an out window shutter. The vibrant colours an droughly painted figures recall the spontanety of childrens art. h was a member of CoBra group, who blamed that such unconventional sources could re-invigorate post-war culture. Appel also used the title questioning children fro a controversial mural condemned as incomprehensive, and covered over with wallpaper. The dutch title also means 'beggin children' and evokes scenes of poverty that Appel had witnessed in post-war Germany.
