Child Action Information 2012

-Pound day
-fundraising event using the history of blackburn Orphanage to help Child Action Northwest continue the work of founder James Dixon. 120 Years ago.
-Pound day was a simple idea started by our founder, James Dixon. The very first pound day took place on 24 June 1892. The appeal asked people to donate a pound ( a lot of money in those days - perhaps a weeks wage). If they couldnt afford a pound they were asked to donate a pound in weight of something that the Orphanage could use in the running of the household.

Background
     - In 2011 we unearthed what we now refer to as "the buried Treasure" of James Dixon. Deep in the cellars, underneath the orphanage building was a collection of documents dating back to the foundations of the charity. These include early building commitee meetigns, architect plans etc.
History
-The Orphanage was founded by James Dixon (1855-1936), originally from Scotland, who was known as "The Blackburn Samaritans". He had also helped the ragged school. In 1866 he started to raised funds to build an Orphanage. On the 23rd July 1891 the opening ceremmony took place, with several hundred townsfolk in attendance. Two months previously, James Dixon had been appointed as the first super-intendent,  post he was to hold until 1933.

Ideas 2012

Some rough ideas/ experiments in my book.
- A piece of canvas with the list of orphans who have passed through the orphanage. In many different fonts and mediums and sizes. Then using image maker putting a photo of R.J.Gregson on top so the writing shows through. Then reflecting on this, it may give me more ideas or how to develop and move on.
- A pass student made a film then paused it to start her off on canvas. So ive decided to use a video from a media student to get some images or even ideas from this to progress future fro my book cover.
- Using photoshop to layer several photos on top of each other to bring through several memories to viewers at one time.
